About

boyRefugees.  Are they legal?  Where do they come from?  Why are they here? Did they come to hurt us?  Will they take all of our jobs?  Is their aim to destroy our way of living?  Am I safe around them?  Why do they dress the way they do?  Shouldn’t they be required to speak English if they live here?  Why do they have so many children?  Do the women feel oppressed wearing a scarf to cover their head? Are they all Islamic?  Are any of them Christian?  Are you not afraid?  Why do you help them?  These are just a few of the questions that arise when people find out that I started a nonprofit to assist disadvantaged displaced people…refugees… with their successful resettlement in my city.  Raising awareness about refugees who have come to take refuge in the City of Memphis, TN has been an ongoing journey for me since the summer of 2010.

I have learned a lot about refugees as individuals, as people beloved by God that I believe God created just like I know He created me.  Without a story, I cannot explain my experiences in a way that would educate others and give justice and attention to the oppressive cultural matter that it deserves.  I pray that telling their stories will help to kindly answer many of the questions and concerns that so many Americans have.  I invite you to come along with me as I write out the stories of many of the individuals that I have met over the years.  Many of whom have literally challenged me for the better and, along with Christ, have given my life purpose.  A purpose to first, just love ALL people.  My hope for the widely diverse City of Memphis is that we would become a city with a heart that creates a culture of refuge.
